Recording character voices

Character voices are performances with processing on top — the performance does most of the work.

The five starters

Hero: chest-forward delivery, slight pitch down, warm EQ. Villain: slower pace, lowered pitch, subtle reverb. Robot: flat pitch, short delay, high-pass filter. Elder: raised pitch, light tremolo. Creature: layered takes with different pitches.

Practice method

Record each character saying the same paragraph, then listen back the next day. The characters that survive a night of sleep are the ones worth keeping.
