Making a voice deeper, naturally

A deeper voice done well is mostly EQ and microphone technique — pitch shifting is the last resort, not the first move.

Start with technique

Speak slightly slower, lower your chin marginally, and get closer to the mic. Proximity effect alone adds low-end warmth for free before any software touches the signal.

Then EQ

A gentle boost around 100–150 Hz adds chest tone; a small cut around 300 Hz removes the boxiness that makes voices sound honked. Reserve pitch shift for one or two semitones at most.

Frequently asked questions

Is pitching down harmful for the voice?

Software shifting is harmless to your voice; only physical straining is not. Never force your real voice unnaturally low.
